Sobre Garrison
Garrison is a proud and intentionally-diverse community school committed to the vision that every student will be loved, challenged, and prepared to thrive in life. To achieve this, we employ a whole child wellbeing approach to social-emotional learning, and a 'workshop' teaching model that emphasizes student choice, personalization, and authentic learning experiences. We partner with families to build community across difference, with the goal of equity and excellence for our children. Garrison is among the fastest-growing schools in the city, and we invite you to learn more and partner with us! Our school's early literacy work has been profiled in The New York Times and our equity work recognized by the Flamboyan Foundation. Garrison stands on the location of what was once Camp Barker, home to formerly enslaved people who liberated themselves during the Civil War. In 1862, Abraham Lincoln visited the grounds of what's now our school to greet its residents. Today we serve Pre-K3 to Grade 5, drawing students from both within our boundary - which includes parts of Shaw, Logan Circle, and the U Street corridor - and from all eight wards throughout the city.
