Middle School Planning

Garrison is getting a new feeder middle school! "Euclid" Middle School will open for SY2028 and will be located at the site of the old Banneker High School at 800 Euclid St NW. “Euclid” MS will replace Shaw Junior High School, which closed in 2013. Current 2nd graders will be the first class of Garrison students to enter “Euclid” in 6th grade, and will be joined by students from Seaton and Cleveland, along with some students from Tubman, H.D. Cooke, and Marie Reed.

Middle School Community Working Group (CWG)

As part of opening the new middle school, DCPS formed a Community Working Group (CWG). In opening schools in recent years, DCPS has consistently formed CWGs to serve in an advisory role during planning. Members of the CWG for “Euclid” have three primary roles:

  • Help share updates on the planning of the new school with the members of their community.

  • Collect general and specific feedback from members of their community.

  • Based on collected feedback, provide insight into the priorities of prospective students, family members and community members during CWG meetings.

The CWG is composed of 23 representatives, including feeder school parents and staff, as well as community members. The group will meet regularly over the next three years.

Garrison currently has 2 representatives on the CWG—Mia Caras (2nd and 4th grade parent) and Andria Hill (2nd grade parent). A third Garrison parent is also on CWG as a representative of the Ward 2 Education Council (Sarah Dale, 1st and 3rd grade parent). Principal Kip is also a CWG member.

Look out for upcoming opportunities to talk with Garrison's CWG members to learn about their monthly meetings with DCPS and provide feedback. The CWG plans to meet regularly with the PTO Middle School committee, which everyone in our community is welcome to join!

To contact the CWG directly with feedback, please reach out to pto@garrisonelementary.org.
